it's been nineteen days since cyclone nargis swept over myanmar leaving close to 78000 people dead with another 56 000 missing. however, the recent sichuan earthquake which happened nine days ago has completely overshadowed the myanmar disaster. the death toll in china currently stands at 41 353 with tens of thousands missing, approximately 14 000 buried.by looking at these statistics, we can clearly see that the destruction caused by cyclone nargis is far worse than that of the sichuan earthquake.
i'm not saying that we should focus on helping myanmar and not china; i just think that we should pay more attention to myanmar instead of focusing all our attention on the sichuan earthquake. the earthquake has been hogging headlines consistently since it happened while the myanmar situation has been put to one side. myanmar needs foreign aid & help to get back on her feet but unless the military junta allows foreign relief teams in, the death toll will increase drastically because of the spread of water-borne diseases, hunger and unhygenic living conditions.
people i know have donated thousands of dollars to the sichuan earthquake relief fund but nothing to the myanmar cyclone nargis relief fund. so everyone, please play your part & donate not just to the earthquake fund but also to the cyclone fund so that we can help the people of myanmar get back on their feets.

Fifty-six hours after being buried in debris, 20-year-old Jia Zhengjiao came out of her coma, slowly opening her eyes to the sight of more than 160 Chinese Air Force soldiers singing Happy Birthday to her. Recounting the arduous struggle to rescue his younger sister and only living family member to Chengdu Evening News on Friday, Jia Zhengyuan couldn't hold back his tears.
Immediately after the quake, Zhengyuan rushed from their hometown Pengzhou, Sichuan province, to the severely devastated Dujiangyan, where his sister was working. He discovered her buried under rubble, calling for help. after failing to rescue Zhengjiao on his own, the brother spent a sleepless night in front of the ruins until a group of Air Force soldiers passed by.
"I heard the general shouting at my sister: 'Kid, hold on! You'll be OK! Can you believe in me?'" Zhengyuan recalled.
Jia was pinned beneath so much tangled, heavy debris the Air Force ended up dispatching 160 soldiers and two experts to the site. After 36 hours of rescue work, the young woman was finally pulled from the rubble, clad in bloodstained clothes. However, she had fallen into a coma and couldn't hear the anxious calls of her brother and the soldiers.
"Yesterday was Jiaojiao's birthday. I had planned a celebration for her," Zhengyuan sobbed. Nobody was quite sure who broke the silence by singing 'happy birthday' but before long, all of the soldiers joined the chorus. "They all crossed their arms over their chests & their eyes filled with tears," Zhengyuan said. Miraculously, Zhenjiao regained consciousness mid-song.

spooky or wat? its like the coincidences btwn the deaths of john f kennedy and abraham lincoln. goose.
on a lighter note, some laughing babies vids. super amusing HAHAHA xDDD

hello everyone, dunno if yall had read this article in lianhe zaobao, that when carried out of the rubble, this dead schoolgirl was still holding a pen in her hand. and judging from the chubbiness of the hand in the picture, she should be rather young. younger than 10 yrs old perhaps? and my dad said there was this kid, his hands/arms were injured and infected, and both had to be amputated in order to keep him alive. he asked the doctor, "can i please keep one of my hands? i sitll want to learn." in chinese, of course. and here we are, complaining about SIA deadlines and the school management. we seem to have forgotten that we are in a very privileged state. that there are kids out there, our age or maybe even younger, who survived but have to spend the rest of their lives without a relative; who still have the desire to learn, to write, but can never do it again; and those, who never had a chance to say goodbye.lets observe a minute of silence and pray for all the victims in china, and not forgetting cyclone-hit myanmar. (and perhaps for the webcounters of the world as well)
anw. i just remembered initially i just wanted to make an annoucement thats why i began with 'hello everyone'. anw again, err. the IH holiday assignment is individual work, pls hand in by MONDAY OF TERM 3 WEEK 1. let us fight the twin demons of procrastination and distractions! and before i forget there is IH remedial and u may sign up for one of the following dates: 2nd, 3rd, 11th OR 12th Jun otuside humanities dept. so unless u'll be away for all four dates, pls sign up and turn up for the remedial. thats all for today's announcements, thank you.

hello everyone, i'm going to conduct an informal poll. and due to my lack of technological ability, there'll be no links to fanciful(sp?) online surveys or computer generated polls.anw, i'm in the grad mag team this yr so that means our class will have more say in deciding how our grad mag will turn out to be like! hoorays. i'm just kidding of course. okay okay anw, the million dollar question is this:
WHAT WILL BE THE NAME OF OUR GRADUATION MAGAZINE?
at the most recent meeting the ans to that question was: The Grad Mag. how cool is that. HAHAHA i think we're geniuses. another suggestion later on was: MINE. the idea of the concept is to make it sound somewhat "childish and mature" at the same time... dont ask me, i just quote my 老大. so, i'm appealing to u guys to come up with names.. and maybe a concept that tags along with it. also, if u feel strongly abt a certain style that u want our grad mag this yr to have, do voice out ur thots =) i hope eleveners visit our blog. if not i'll ask yall again tmr morning =) time is tight, dear friends. good night =)
i realized i didnt sound like myself -.- must be because i just spent 8 bucks on ice cream. the salesperson was too persuasive ><
anw thanks ppl i'll be eternally grateful for ur help! =D
